Final newsletter of 2025

2025 is swiftly coming to a close - and what a year it has been for the community schemes industry.

CSOS caused quite a stir in April, publishing their draft Consolidated Practice Directives 1 of 2025, with final version following in July. From first draft to published text, this document has continued to be a contentious piece, sparking both frustration and conversation on social media and in consultations with our legal team. Scheme executives and property managers were then offered some reprieve in October, when the Supreme Court of Appeal handed down a landmark decision that finally clarified that disputes in community schemes need not be taken to CSOS but may proceed directly to the High Court.

We have articles covering the Directive as well as this groundbreaking SCA ruling on our website. We will also have our A5 paperback book containing the full text of the Directives available for purchase early in 2026.

July 2025 saw a more personal milestone for our team as we celebrated The Advisory's 5th anniversary, and we were gifted a surprise when one of Auren's 2024 articles was referenced in a High Court judgment - proving that our publications are popular, even in the courtroom.

September saw the launch of our Community Schemes Copilot initiative, which is a subscription-based service offering access to affordable, expert legal advice, training, and support throughout the year. For more information on this service, click here.

In October, we were chuffed to share the news of baby Bennet de Klerk's arrival, and he has been such an incredible blessing to Ané and Jacques.

All told, this year has been filled with highlights, and although it has also had its challenges, we are very excited to see what 2026 holds for our team, our clients and our industry.

On that note - just a friendly reminder that our office will be closing on 15 December 2025 and we will reopen on 5 January 2026. Please note that due to our consulting team's current workload, we will only be taking on a limited number of consultations between now and the end of the year, and any written opinions or drafting work required for your scheme will be scheduled for completion in the first weeks of 2026.

We wish all of our readers a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year!
